How to crochet a summer crop top using 2 granny squares
The start of the summer is here and this is my kids last week in school! I can’t wait to go to the beach with them and take trips to the waterpark and playgrounds.
This crop top will be perfect for those really hot summer days. Just throw it over a skirt or shorts and you are ready to go. And the best part, it is really easy to make! Even though it looks intricate, it is essentially made of just 2 identical granny squares! Why does it not look like granny squares you might ask? Because you are crocheting only 3 sides of the granny square and the 2 pieces are connected on both ends. Those ends are the front and back center of the top. Does that make sense? Read the detailed crochet pattern below and watch the step by step video tutorial to see just how easy it is to make your own intricate looking crop top.
For the yarn, I used fingering weight 8/4 cotton so it is nice and airy to wear all summer long. Even though it is a thin yarn, this crochet crop top works up pretty quickly and only uses 3 balls of yarn. So if you start now, you can wear it in time for the next beach trip!

Explanation:
This crop top is made up from 2 granny squares. But instead of making all 4 sides of the square, 1 side is left out. This will become the arm hole. So instead of working in the rounds, you go back and forth between the 3 sides of the granny square.
The 2 pieces are then joined on the sides to create a tub.
Finally, ties are added to the top to create the arm holes.
