Free Beginner Macrame Earrings Tutorial
Macrame is a great medium to make lightweight statement earrings in all the colors of the rainbow. And since Macrame is easy to learn, you can create a variety of fun Macrame earrings with simple Macrame knots. All you need is a metal frame, this can be round, triangular or square. Then you can choose from many different colors for your macrame yarn. And finally, earwires to finish them as your Macrame earrings.
The Spruce Craft researched that: “macrame was an art form that was brought west from Arabic countries. Weavers from this part of the world used several knotting techniques to finish the edges of woven tapestries, rugs, and shawls with fringe.
As these textiles were distributed throughout Europe, more people began to experiment with knotting as a pastime.”

How to Make Macrame Earrings
For this tutorial, I used the square metal frames and used them like diamonds, but you can also make them with the round shapes.
First cut 7 stands at 8″ each.
Now attach all 7 strands to the wire frame with a Larkshead knot. Fold a piece of yarn in half and place it under the wire frame. Then pull the 2 ends through the loop to encase the frame with the string. do that for all 7 stands.
It is best to pin your work onto a piece of thick foam now so it won’t be sliding around. Then you can start with the Half Hitch Knots on the left side.
Divide the strings to so you know where the center is. Then lay the outermost string (knot bearing string) over all the strings on the left side. Loop the string that is under the knot bearing cord over it and through the hole between the knot bearing cord and the string itself. Pull tight. Do the same again and pull it tight. This completes 1 Half Hitch Knot.
Keep making Half Hitch Knots with each string until you reach the center. So a total of 4 Half Hitch Knots.
Then repeat the same on the other side but the opposite way. So all the knots on the right are angled to the right and pulled out on the right side.
Make a regular knot in the center and you completed all macrame knots for these earrings.
Now you can comb out the cords so all the individual strings are separated. Then either spray the earrings with the stiffening spray or dunk it in sugar water. Wait until they are dry and cut the strings into a V shape.
All that is left is adding the ear wire to the top and your new macrame earrings are ready to wear!
