How to Make a Macrame Mirror

Getting the right kind of macrame yarn is very important for this project since you want a lot of fluffy yarn all around the mirror. This cotton is super soft and comes in so many beautiful colors! I really love this macrame yarn and this Etsy shop is practically located around the corner in Miami but sources this incredible yarn from Spain.

And the 2 sets of plain round mirrors and metal hoops gives you the option to make many different sizes and colors of Macrame mirrors. Of course, you can also use them to make my Macrame Dream Catcher! And this Macrame yarn would be a dream to use for my Macrame Feather Earrings. Find all my Macrame Tutorials right here!

First, you need to cut 60 pieces of string each 5″ long.

This Macrame Mirror is made with a single Macrame knot – the Larkshead knot. Take a string and fold it in half. Then place it under the wire frame and pull the 2 ends through the loop on top. Pull the ends tight catching the wire frame within the string. Do that all around the wire frame until it is all filled in. That should be with about 60 pieces for the 3″ frame. You will need more for the larger frames.

It should look like this. See how each string is still together and how they are slightly different length? So now you need to separate each string into the single strands and cut the Macrame Mirror into a round shape.

The strings are still floppy. To make them stand nice and straight, you can dip it in sugar water or use stiffening spray. I used the spray and it really works perfectly.

Now all that is left is to attach the finished Macrame frame to the mirror. It is best to do that with a glue gun, but some fast drying glue should work as well.

Place the Macrame frame upside down on the table and put the hot glue all around the edge. Then put the mirror on it upside down.

Let it cool and then it is ready to hang! There mirrors are great since a hanger is already attached to the back. So you can hang them right away. Make a few in different sizes and matching colors for a cool wall display.
